GIFT #8 : Francesca Russell
Give the gift
Let me introduce you to a very old friend and colleague,
I first met Francesca in Santa Cruz during one of the more idyllic chapters of my life.
It was 2000 and Francesca was working as stage manager at both San Jose Rep and Shakespeare Santa Cruz. My partner at the time, Karen Franks, was the wardrobe mistress at both those theaters.
I met some of my favorite people on the planet through or with Karen. Francesca is a fine example of that tribe.
Later Francesca and I would work together on the first national tour of Monty Python’s Spamalot.
Cut to my bookshelf and what may be my favorite book there.
Francesca kept an online diary of that tour called Travels With Tallulah.
Tallulah was her cat.
Finest damn touring animal I’ve ever known.
(How I wish I had kept a journal of those years—in many ways Fra’s online diary inspired my blog about the Cats revival, but I digress…)
Francesca also took a TON of photographs.
At the end of the tour she presented us all a hardcover book of her work titled…
Travels On The Bright Side:
On Tour with Monty Python’s Spamalot.
It’s a gorgeous book. And it captures those years beautifully.
I’ve just pulled it off the shelf again to get the title right and I’ve literally got a lump in my throat as a turn the pages.
She captured memories
And now she’s doing that for lots of people.
DOCUMENTARY FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMS
SERVING LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK CITY AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS.
This, from Francesca’s site:
Our lives are built upon thousands of tiny little stories. Every day we begin with a blank page and write the next chapter in our ongoing adventure.
Our stories are the most precious gifts that we will pass on.
They provide roots, identity, stability, and the knowledge that we belong to something bigger than ourselves.
I can’t recommend Francesca enough.
Whether you’re looking to document a gathering of friends, an artistic process, or a piece of family history, I can think of no better combination of heart, art, and skills in which to intrust your story.

The only thing better that sharing these gift ideas is seeing my friends and clients working. On stage, in rehearsal, in auditions, in the studio.
I love this work and would love to share it with you.
